Roleplay Map and Discussion - Page 2 Empty Re: Roleplay Map and Discussion

Janos looked around. They were just about to pass the small headland to the North of Tynset. Tynset was the name of their first village - the village as a whole had been in agreement that naming it Bodensee or Alvadal would be a bad idea. He realised that someone had called his name from the mast.

"I see a village!! It's large. And look there are people on the mountain." Janos once again looked North and saw the mountain spotted with people and the small village - around the same size as Tynset, maybe smaller, maybe just far away - teeming with life. He called out to his aide: "I know that style of building, it's not like I didn't serve on the Jonistavia Campaign. It's our old friends! Sail on!"

He went back to his thoughts. Surely Tynset was a better name than Alvadal? That way they wouldn't anger the gods.

--------

Huron looked back round. Tynset was fading into the distance. Here the path went left and East, straight into the forest and to the logging camp. The camp had been attacked by a lynx on the first day, but they caught the beast and somehow tamed him. It was all Kuusik's work. He seemed to understand animals better than anyone else. He just hoped that Girdon had been trained enough to follow his command. Since then, everything had run smoothly.

He was with three other men: Two scouts and a trader. They had taken a small amount of gems with them to trade with the folk who they'd heard about. They didn't want to meet the Meridians and so had decided they would cut the southernmost point of the forest to be sure. As far as he was concerned, the only good Meridian was a dead Meridian. He'd been told by the scouts that the two sides had signed a peace treaty, but Huron loved a fight.

But he was a clever man. He liked his own head. He was not prepared to fight against a group of more than six. The trader was useless. The scouts clever and quick, but they wouldn't be able to dodge more than a few men at a time.

By this time, he had realised something. He had never been this far inland in his life. He was a seafarer, however good he was at close combat fighting. He found the slow clop of the horses nice and rythmical and the buzz of the nearby forest wonderful.

"Hurry up," shouted one of the guards "We need to get to the pass by nightfall."

A fisherman from the coast of Corsica came running into Karok at full-sprint. "Attack! Attack! Meridians come! Attack!" Alo rushed out of his hut and ran to shore to see what was coming, as did most other Karokians. "That's no invasion!" Alo realized. "That's a trading vessel!" He ordered everyone back into the city, but motioned Kiowa, an excellent warrior, to his side. "Kiowa, dear friend. Take with you Paco and Tadzi, and speak with the Meridians. If they are friendly, I will come to negotiate. If not... let us hope it does not come to that. Understood?" Kiowa nodded, and ran into the city to find Paco and Tadzi. Alo wandered back to his hut, wondering if he had brought certain destruction to his city. Meridians were more well-armed, and had more battle experienced fighters. If they were hostile after their last encounter with the Karokians, all he had worked for would be doomed. He would know soon...

Clyde looked around his town. It was a humble place, and more work was needed before things could get better. It had been a while before the Karok party had returned, and he was worried that they had been killed by the Karoks. He wanted to make peace with the native people. When the Karoks first arrived, Caren was worried for their survival and wanted to strike first. Clyde realized this was a mistake however, and wanted to have peace and trade with other peoples. Boats had been sent south down the Wide Sea, up river, and north along the coast. Fields were currently being cleared, the women had found some grains and native crop. Agriculture would be important for their survival. Along with game from hunters, fishing boats brought in food as well. Grains, and vegetables would be important for their health. Construction of the main hut had begun, but it would take a while. Wood was currently being collected for construction, and designs laid out. Clyde would need to appoint officers, he could not supervise the entire village by himself.

The men at Corsica:
Three men were approaching from a small city. They were cautious, but appeared to be willing to talk.
The front man of the Meridian expedition stepped forward uttering one word. Peace.
He laid out the Meridian plans for trade and a truce pact. They would not attack, if they were not attacked.

Sindri rode on his camel slightly in front of the rest of his group. He led the charge of 20 camels toward their destination, the forrest. These camels where beasts of burden, breed to be extremely strong. The purpose of these camels was the pull the sled. Sindri did not now exactly when the sled was built. It had been built before he was born and before the birth of his Uncle, Adisi. The routine was like clockwork to the Donergan people. When they chopped down as many logs as the sled could hold, then they would come back. When they got back to they tribe they would use some of the wood from the journey to patch up the sled. They process worked perfectly and had every year (except for a few years back when that one guy got lost and died of dehydration). Sindri knew that they where maybe halfway to the forrest. They would be there in no time.

Kiowa spoke with the men, and then began to issue orders. "Paco, go get Alo. Tell him that it's time to talk of trade. Tadzi, find Delson, and see how this trade pact may effect his plans for the city." The two men ran into the city, with an urgency within their steps. Paco returned with Alo almost immediately, while Tadzi took a bit more time. Eventually, he returned with Delson the architect. Tadzi left, but Paco decided to stay and watch the deal.

"So..." Alo began. "Let us begin, shall we?"

Fires blazed around the town, and life had begun to take its daily routine. They had begun to plant crops into the surrounding countryside, and land was being cleared to do so. Materials were being gathered for the central hut, and workers were already being rallied to the task. Fishermen were sent out daily to bring a fresh catch for the village meal. So far, they had survived off of meager rations and fish, but they could not hold this diet for long. Soon, they would need a more stable food supply, and that is what the fields were supposed to provide. They would have to wait until planting season however, and gather enough seed and manpower to sow the fields. The logs and trunks cleared from the soon-to-be fields were being placed into a stockpile into the center of the city. They would go into the construction of the main hut. A mound would be built, with a small wooden palisade at the top. A dry moat would surround the bottom, and the hut would be built within the small wooden palisade. The trading ships sent to make peace with the native peoples had not returned and this worried Clyde. He was an efficient man, and wanted more information on the surrounding countryside. If the ships did not return within one week, he would gather an exploration party, and have them explore the continent. Cloff was well on his way to breeding the horses, and the first step in the physical training for the humans was endurance. They would have to ride for hours, and stay fit. Cloff estimated that the men and horses could be trained with 12 weeks.

In Corsica:
A tall man stood before them, and he prompted them to begin with the proposal. He seemed to be their leader, but Jacob, the leader of the expedition wanted to be extremely careful. He presented that proposal to the leader and detailed its clauses. When the fields in Meridia had been harvested, the Karoks would receive 5% of every harvest, grain and vegetables. In return, the Meridians would receive stone and fish. Both of them would be considered allies, and called to each others wars, they would no longer attack each other and forgive each other for previous losses inflicted.

Alo turned to Delson and asked "How will trading stone effect the city plans?"

"It may cause a small delay, but it'll be worth it, I assure you." Delson replied.

Alo turned towards Jacob. "Alright, it's a deal. I am eager to work with you, new-found ally."

Jacob and his two companions waded back into their small shipping vessel. They were eager to share the news with Clyde, he would be pleased. The Karoks had become allies, and stone would help in the development of the main hut. They had been on the voyage for awhile however, and Clyde almost certainly though that they were dead. Jacob shrugged his shoulders, nothing they could do about that. All they could do was safely sail home to their city and inform their community.
